Scholar of Airport Thievery Offers Help to Frequent Fretters

It's good to know that I'm not being an anal-compulsive worrywartwhen I lurk near O'Hare's curbside baggage check-in area until theskycap actually places my suitcase onto the conveyor belt, so I canpersonally watch it disappear into the bowels of the airport.

Curbside theft is where a traveler may well "get fleeced andnever realize it until the end of the journey," says Kevin Coffey,head of a special-investigations detail staffed with undercoverofficers at a major U.S. airport.
